On May 23, 2019, Dick’s Sporting Goods issued a recall
(recall number 19-127) that affected approximately 10,000 units
. The Ethos Pull-Up Assist product
was recalled due to a laceration hazard. Specifically, the plastic clip on the nylon band attached to the resistance band with a carabiner can suddenly break, posing a significant risk of injury. The affected products consist of UPC number 889751549392 and style number ETHA200. The recalled products were sold by Dick’s Sporting Goods both in-store
and online from March 2017 to February 2019 for approximately $35 each.
According to the recall, there have been at least seven reports of the product suddenly breaking. These incidents have resulted in at least six lacerations. Two of the incidents were severe – requiring one victim to receive stitches and another victim to receive staples.
The recall suggests that anyone who owns the recalled pull-up assist product should immediately stop using the product and return in to Dick’s Sporting Goods
. The recall states that all customers that return the product with a receipt will receive a full refund; any customers returning the product without a receipt will receive store credit.
