Kawasaki Motors Issues a Recall for its Lawn Mower Engines

On October 8th, 2019, Kawasaki Motors, well known for its motorcycle products, issued a recall that pertained to various lawn mower engines. The official model number is FX850V-EFI, located on the fan housing. Nearly 1,000 of the units were recalled due to a leaky fuel injector. If the fuel injector leaks, fuel can transfer into the engine at an excessive rate, causing burning and fire hazards. Kawasaki Motors Issues a Recall for its Lawn Mower Engines
Both the 2017 and 2018 models are affected. They are FX850V-AS44 (2017) with serial number range FX850VB19736 through FX850VB44147, and FX850V-AS47 (2018) with serial number range FX850VB20733 through FX850VB40776. The mowers are used in specific lawn mowers; the Ferris (IS ® 2100Z ZTR) and the Cub Cadet Pro Z (760 LKW EFI). The motors were manufactured in the United States at Kawasaki Motors Corp. in Missouri. They were sold at Kawasaki dealers, lawn and garden stores, and home improvement stores from June 2017 through August 2019. The motors themselves cost around $2,800, while the mowers that came with the engines pre-installed cost about $10,000 to $12,000. No incidents have been reported and no injuries have occurred due to the leaky fuel injector. Given the propensity for damages stemming from this kind of defect, though, it is no surprise that Kawasaki issued a recall as swiftly as they did. The company recommends that all consumers should refrain from using the mowers and contact Kawasaki to set up a free repair. Kawasaki itself is taking initiative and contacting consumers so that it can preemptively set up a fix. The fuel injector will be replaced with one that does not cause or facilitate leaking.

Accidents From Faulty Engines

Lawn mowers that have these faulty Kawasaki engines within them can be the primary reason for severe injuries. A leaky fuel injection is one of the main causes of internal fires. Because of the combustion that happens in engines and the various flammable liquids, the danger of leaky fuel injector is greatly amplified. A fire on a lawn mower can cause an explosion, which may lead to serious body injuries, burns, nerve damage, tissue damage, muscle pain, and more. These burns may last for weeks or months; the most severe will likely be permanent and result in heavy scarring. If a fire breaks out during usage, the owner of the item may suddenly panic. Additionally, a fire can extend well beyond the lawn mower. If the mower is in a field or a grassy location, the fire from the engine can spread and cause the entire plot, garage, home, shed, or other enclosure to go up in flames. This can cause more injuries to those in the home and create a huge debt for property damage. What Should I Do If My Kawasaki Lawn Mower Engine Caught Fire And Caused An Accident? The incidents can happen while the motor is on and during usage, so when a lawn is being cut, when the mower is idling, when the mower is being tested, and more.

What Should I Do If My Kawasaki Lawn Mower Engine Caught Fire And Caused An Accident?

In the event that your Kawasaki lawn mower engine caught fire, you should gather appropriate evidence to file a lawsuit. You will be filing a product liability claim, which essentially proves that the company responsible for creating the product will be held liable. A product liability claim against Kawasaki can be filed if you can show that:
  • The engine had a design flaw that caused the fuel injector to leak
  • The engine was manufactured poorly and that fuel injector part was made with poor materials or the machinery did not sufficiently create it
  • There was a lack of warning language or hazard signs present on the packaging or on the item itself

A leaky fuel injector is generally caused by the manufacturer messing up. The fuel injector system has been present in engines for some decades, and if there are errors, it was likely due to the materials or the creation thereof. Either way, you could hold Kawasaki responsible. To file your claim, you will need to present ample evidence of your injuries and the circumstances of the situation. Your evidence can consist of the following:
  • Medical bills from the hospital showing the treatment you received
  • Photos of your injuries
  • Statements and notes from the doctor outlining future treatments
  • Receipt showing that you bought the Kawasaki engine, such a bank statement, credit card statement, proof of purchase in your email, and more
  • Eyewitness or bystander testimonies who can support your claim that engine broke or caught fire during use
  • Photographs of your injuries and other damages sustained to the yard, home, engine, mower, and more
  • Security camera footage or surveillance video if you have any available on your home
You should also make sure that you do not mess with the item in any way. Do not return it to the manufacturer for a repair or accept a repair. Do not try to fix it yourself or take it to any shop so that it can be fixed. Do not accept any refunds for the engine either; if you do, Kawasaki can claim that you were already compensated for the incident. Once you have completed these tasks and gotten your evidence, you should look for a skilled product liability attorney in Los Angeles. We have the ability to win you the compensation you need due to our extensive experience. You may not have ever negotiated a claim, and you may not have the time, energy, knowledge, and funds required to ensure that your case is properly handled. The insurance agent would likely throw your claim out immediately if you submitted it without any representation. An attorney, on the other hand, can ensure that your case is at the top of the pile, and we will relentlessly work to secure you a fair settlement.

How Much Is My Kawasaki Defective Engine Product Liability Claim Worth?

A product liability claim for a defective Kawasaki lawn mower engine can be worth well over $10,000 in some cases. This will be calculated based on the extent of the damages suffered, the impact they had on your career and daily life, how responsible you were in the incident, and more. If you do not have legal representation, you might not be able to collect much compensation. Our team of expert lawyers will fight for you to receive the following kinds of restitution for your injuries:
  • Medical bills from the past and future for surgery, hospitalization, medication, physical therapy, and more
  • Lost income from the past and future from the time you could not go to work because of injuries, medical treatments, and more
  • Property damage to replace the engine, home furnishings, lawn mower, personal belongings, and more
  • Pain and suffering damages to cover emotional stress, anxiety, fear, PTSD, mental trauma, and more

How Much Time Do I Have To Sue Kawasaki?

The statute of limitations in California is 2 years for personal injury claims. Product liability lawsuits fall under such claims, and if you do not file a lawsuit within the acceptable time frame, you will not be able to collect any compensation at all. It is imperative that you file a claim quickly and you do not wait too long, since you won’t be able to collect any compensation if you do. The statute of limitations can be extended beyond the 2 year deadline in some instances. This can happen if you were under 18 years old at the time of the incident, which would allow your statute of limitations to begin when you turned legal age. You would also be able to wait until you return to functionality or health if you were left incapacitated after the incident. Further the defendant must be present in the state, and if he has left or vacated it, the statute would be suspended until he returns. Many claims wind up not being filed because people do not know the statute of limitations or because they forget. If you work with our firm, we will ensure that you do not miss as ingle deadline for your case. We are punctual and always meet the necessary deadlines.
