Goalsetter Wall-Mounted Basketball Goals Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On October 27, 2022, Goalsetter issued a recall for their wall-mounted basketball goals. According to the recall, number 23-027, the basketball goal can potentially detach from the wall and fall onto the ground. This poses a serious impact risk which can lead to injury and even death. The recall affected approximately 18,000 products.
The recall specifically includes the following 72-inch, 60-inch, 54-inch, and 48-inch wall-mounted goal systems:
- Goalsetter Adjustable Series
- Fixed Wall Mount Series
- GS Baseline Series
The basketball goals were sold in many places, including SCHEELS stores and basketball equipment stores around the country. The goals were also sold online via www.amazon.com, www.dickssportinggoods.com, www.walmart.com, www.target.com, and www.competitiveedgeproducts.com. They were sold from November 1999 through June 2022.
So far, there have been a few reports of incidents associated with the recalled product. These reports include one fatality in June 2018; a 14-year-old boy was killed when the recalled product fell on him in Granger, Indiana. Other incident reports included severe facial injuries and a fractured leg.
The company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the recalled wall-mounted basketball goals immediately and contact them for a free removal of the product with either a full refund or a free inspection and installation of an additional safety bracket.
