Reported Gas Leak at Marathon Refinery in Wilmington Leaves 4 Hospitalized

Reported Gas Leak at Marathon Refinery in Wilmington Leaves 4 Hospitalized lawyer attorney lawsuit compensation incident liability

A gas leak was reported at the Marathon Refinery located on the 2100 block of East Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington. The leak was reported at about 6:39 a.m. According to reports, Butane and Hydrogen Sulfide were leaking from the pipes at the refinery. At least four people were exposed to the gases and had to be transported to local hospitals. The leak was allegedly shut down by approximately 7:15 a.m., according to officials.

The victims are 26-, 35-, and 43-year-old men in moderate condition. Another victim, a 40-year-old man, is in serious condition. One of the victims had to be rescued from an elevated area via a stretcher and lowered to the floor level.

Without a doubt, this was a dangerous situation for all parties involved. However, it is a risk that comes with working in refineries. Unfortunately, refineries that are in disrepair, a lack of personal protection equipment (PPE), and even a lack of training can increase the risk of workers suffering harm due to gas leaks at refineries and similar workplaces.

If you or a loved one were harmed in the incident mentioned above or a similar incident, you could have grounds to file a lawsuit.
