Ineos Automotive Ltd. issued a recall for their Grenadier SUVs. The recall affects over 7,000 vehicles in the U.S. and comes after customers reported that the doors of their SUVs flung open while the vehicle was in motion. Based on reports filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the company is expected to replace door-button mechanisms on affected SUVs manufactured before April 19, 2024.
According to the company the affected parts were assembled without the application of enough grease, resulting in external buttons getting stuck and causing doors to open while the vehicle was driving. The company has reportedly stated that they will pay for all repairs.
The Incidents that Could OccurIf the door of an SUV suddenly swings open while the vehicle is being driven, different incidents could occur. Consider some of the following possibilities:
- The driver could lose control of the vehicle and crash
- The door could strike another vehicle, causing a crash
- The door could strike a motorcyclist or a bicyclist on the road
- Items could fall out of the vehicle, striking other vehicles on the road and causing a crash
- Pets could fall out of the vehicle
- Unrestrained passengers could fall out of the vehicle
Possible Injuries: although every situation is different, some of the possible injuries that could occur could include head injuries, traumatic brain injuries, neck injuries, back injuries, spinal cord injuries, fractures, and more.
No matter the specific cause of the incident and the harm resulting from the incident, it is important that victims and their families understand that they could have the right to pursue a claim.
