About Meningioma Brain Tumors

Meningiomas are a type of tumor that forms in the meninges, which are the protective membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. These tumors are usually benign; however, their location can cause many different health complications. These tumors can lead to some of the following:

  • Issues with neurological function, including language difficulties, motor weakness, sensory loss, cognitive impairment, seizures, and more
  • Hydrocephalus, due to increased intracranial pressure (this could also lead to nausea, headaches, and issues with vision)
  • Compression of the optic nerve, resulting in vision loss
  • Compression of the auditory nerve, resulting in hearing loss or balance issues
  • Compression of the brainstem, which can affect vital functions (this is considered life-threatening)

These tumors may need to be surgically removed. Some tumors may be non-respectable (meaning they cannot be removed with surgery) due to their location; these tumors may need to be treated with radiation therapy, which comes with even more risks. Of course, these tumors can be recurring. In addition, affected women are likely to suffer significant psychological harm, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, and more.

There are different types of meningioma tumors. The most common types of tumors (accounting for up to 85% of all cases) include the following:

  • Angiomatous Meningioma
  • Fibrous (Fibroblastic) Meningioma
  • Lymphoplasmacyte-rich Meningioma
  • Meningothelial (Syncytial) Meningioma
  • Metaplastic Meningioma
  • Microcystic Meningioma
  • Psammomatous Meningioma
  • Secretory Meningioma
  • Transitional (Mixed) Meningioma

These are classified as Grade I Meningiomas. These types of meningioma tumors are the slowest growing and have the lowest recurrence risk after they have been surgically removed.

Grade II meningiomas, which have a more aggressive growth rate and a higher recurrence rate, include atypical meningioma, chordoid meningioma, and clear cell meningioma. Grade III meningiomas are the most aggressive and fastest growing, as well as the most likely to metastasize and recur; these include anaplastic (malignant) meningioma, rhabdoid meningioma, and papillary meningioma.

Surgery to Remove Meningioma from Using Depo Provera

As mentioned above, there are different types of tumors that could result in different symptoms and harm. These tumors may need invasive surgeries to be removed. Undergoing surgery to remove brain tumors caused by Depo Provera can be very dangerous – and can, of course, result in expensive medical bills. Some tumors may be ineligible to be surgically removed, which could leave affected parties requiring radiation therapy and other aggressive treatment that could cause even more complications.

Can I File a Lawsuit for Tumors Caused by the Use of Depo-Provera?

Yes, you could have the right to file a lawsuit. More specifically, you could have the right to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the drug. In this case, the drug manufacturer is Pfizer Inc. Drug manufacturers have the responsibility to adequately test the drug, monitor effects of the drug, and properly warn of all risks/effects associated with their drug. When these pharmaceutical companies fail maintain these responsibilities, then they could be liable for all resulting harm. In other words, they can be sued.

If you pursue a lawsuit, you could be entitled to receive compensation. Although every claim is different, you could be entitled to receive compensation for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and more. Our experts are fully committed to fighting for your rights and helping you recover the maximum payout available for your Depo-Provera meningioma tumor lawsuit.

How Long Do I have to File a Lawsuit?

All claims are subject to a statute of limitations (or a deadline to sue). If claimants do not file their claims on time, then they run the risk of losing their right to sue entirely. In California, lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies are generally subject to a two-year statute of limitations, meaning that claimants will only have two years to file their claims. If you are unsure of the total length of time that applies to your claim, please do not hesitate to reach out to our legal team as soon as possible.
