The recalled units were sold at a number of stores nationwide, including but not limited to Best Buy, Home Depot, Menards, and Costco. The units were also available online via Amazon.com, Midea.com, Costco.com, Menards.com, Lowes.com, HomeDepot.com, Walmart.com, BJs.com, BestBuy.com, and other sites. The air conditioning units were available for purchase from March 2020 through May 2025 for prices ranging from $280 to $500.

There have been at least 152 reports of mold in the air conditioner units; this number includes 17 reports of consumers experiencing different symptoms (such as allergic reactions, respiratory infections, coughing, sneezing, sore throats, and more).

The company is urging all affected consumers to contact Midea for a free repair or a full/prorated refund (prorated refund will be based on the purchase date or date of manufacture). Consumers seeking a refund will need to either send the unit back to Midea with a free shipping label or submit a photograph showing proof that they have cut the power cord to the unit. Consumers seeking a repair must contact the company to arrange for a technician to install a new drain club or to request a repair kit. Consumers are encouraged to visit the company’s website on instructions on how to inspect their unit prior to continuing to use the product before the repair is complete.

Can I File a Class Action Lawsuit?

Yes, you could potentially participate in a class action claim or a mass torts claim, both of which are common when it comes to defective products. Is there a class action lawsuit? Since the recall is so recent, a class action lawsuit has likely not been filed yet, as it takes time for affected consumers to come together to take action against the company. How can I join or be a part of a class action lawsuit on this case? In general, joining a class action lawsuit can be as simple as reaching out to a recall lawyer or class action lawyer.
