Specialized Vado and Como IGH E-Bikes with Chain Guards Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On March 27, 2025, Specialized Bicycle Components issued a recall for their Vado and Como IGH E-bikes with Chain Guards. According to the recall, number 25-200, the e-bikes’ protective chain or belt guard does not cover the belt drive, so loose clothing can become entrapped in the belt drive and pose a fall hazard. The recall affects approximately 32,400 units of the product in the U.S., although products sold in Canada and in Mexico were also affected.
The recall specifically involves the following bicycle models:
- COMO 3.0 IGH
- COMO 3.0 IGH UL
- COMO 4.0 IGH
- COMO 4.0 IGH UL
- COMO 5.0 IGH
- COMO 5.0 IGH UL
- COMO SL 4.0

- VADO 3.0 IGH STEP THROUGH UL
- VADO 3.0 IGH UL
- VADO 5.0 IGH

These are e-bikes with chain or belt guards. They have an internal gear hum (IGH) and no rear gear shift. The brand name can be found located on the bike frame. The affected bicycles were available in a number of colors, including yellow, black, limestone, red, sand, sea foam, navy, white, gray, purple, raspberry, umber, and dark gray. The model numbers, listed above, can be found printed on the serial number label located on the underside of the top tube.
The affected e-bikes were sold at authorized Specialized Bicycle retailers nationwide as well as online from March 2021 to November 2024 for prices ranging between $3,250 and $5,750.
Reportedly, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
Still, the company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the affected e-bikes and contact the nearest authorized retailer for a free installation of a protective guard.
If you or a member of your family sustained injuries, however, it is important that you do not agree to a free repair or free installation of a protective chain/belt guard. Instead, you should seek legal assistance as soon as possible. Based on the details surrounding the incident and the harm that you suffered, you could have the right to file a claim under product liability law. If you are ready to explore the legal options available to you, please do not hesitate to seek legal assistance with the experts here at our law firm as soon as possible. As mentioned above, loose clothing can become entrapped, which poses a fall risk to users. Anyone who falls off a bicycle, whether it is a traditional bicycle or an electric bicycle, unsuspecting consumers could fall and sustain a number of injuries.
Some of the possible injuries that could occur could include the following:
- Head injuries, including concussions and traumatic brain injuries
- Neck injuries and back injuries
- Shoulder injuries, including torn ligaments and dislocations
- Spinal cord injuries
- Hip injuries
- Pelvic injuries
- Knee injuries
- Broken bones
- Crushing injuries
- Lacerations
- Road burn or road rash
- And more
There are many factors that can affect the severity of injuries resulting from these incidents, such as whether the incident occurred on rugged terrain or on a busy city road near vehicles. No matter the specific injuries that you or a member of your family suffered due to a defective e-bike, you should explore your right to sue.
What to do after a Defective E-Bike Leads to InjuryYou might have questions about what to do if you or a loved one is injured or what steps to take to prepare to take action. First and foremost, it is important for affected consumers to understand that they could have the right to file a lawsuit on the basis of product liability law – which states that product manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products are safe for their intended use.
Consider some of the following recommended steps:
- Take photos of all visible injuries
- Take photos of the scene of the incident
- Take photos of the defect that caused the incident
- Seek medical care as soon as possible and gather all relevant medical records
- Report the incident to the company – never agree to a refund, a repair, or a replacement
- Stop using the product and do not tamper with it in any way
- Speak to any witnesses and collect their contact information
- Gather any video footage that captured the incident
- Gather evidence of the purchase of the defective product
- Seek legal assistance with a recall lawyer as soon as possible

Because the recall is recent and no incidents or injuries have been reported, it is unlikely that there is already a class action claim. Can I file a class action lawsuit?
