Children’s Steel Utility Bunk Beds Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On March 27, 2025, Interior Resources issued a recall for their Children’s Steel Utility Bunk Beds. According to the recall, number 25-705, the recalled bunk beds violate federal regulations because of the spacing between the guardrail and end support; more specifically, the spacing is greater than allowed, which poses an entrapment and strangulation risk to children. The recall affects over 1,700 units of the product.
The steel twin-size bunk beds were sold in a heavy-duty powder coat finish in black or in brown; they have a ladder and a guardrail. The bunk beds were sold by Interior Resources to institutions in New York from January 2017 through May 2024 for approximately $1,800 each.
Although no incidents or injuries have been reported, consumers are urged to immediately disassemble the bunk beds until they are repaired. Consumers are also urged to contact the company for disassembly instructions, to receive a free repair kit, and to schedule professional installation of the repair kit. The repair kit will reportedly reduce the spacing between the guardrail and the end support as well as the spacing around the mattress supports.

As mentioned above, the recalled bunk beds do not violate federal regulations, specifically for spacing. Under these federal safety standards, the openings or spacing in guardrails must be small enough to prevent entrapment; this is less than 3.5 inches in width. Further, the spaces in the structure of the bunk bed must be small enough to prevent a child’s head from getting trapped between the spaces.
The Severity of Entrapment RisksThe risk of entrapment is one of the most significant risks to children. When children get their heads stuck in a space, they can suffer asphyxiation. Even a short entrapment incident can cause significant brain damage. Of course, when the entrapment goes unnoticed for a longer then the incident could be fatal. It is also possible for children to stick their hands, arms, feet, and legs into the small spaces. If they become trapped that way, they can potentially sustain a number of injuries, such as fractures, dislocations, lacerations, crushing injuries, scrapes, bruises, etc.
No matter the specific injuries that your child suffered due to the recalled steel utility bunk beds, it is important that you seek legal help as soon as possible.
