Husband of Daycare Provider Arrested for Molesting at least 3 Children – Child Sex Abuse Lawyers

CHILD SEX ABUSE LAWYERS

Husband of Daycare Provider Arrested for Molesting at least 3 Children

Antonio Chavez, from Riverside, was arrested on July 3, 2024, after allegations that he sexually abused a 4-year-old girl at the at-home daycare run by his wife at their home. The at-home daycare – Chavez Family Daycare – is located on the 18400 block of Blue Sky Street and has been licensed to operate since 2010.

After the first complaint received by the Riverside Police Department, they started an investigation and reached out to other families with children who were enrolled in the daycare center in the past. The authorities found that Chavez had abused at least two other children in the past three years. Although the abuse occurred while the children attended the at-home daycare, the abuse was not reported. Based on this information, the authorities believe that there may be additional victims.

In addition to Chavez’s arrest and a $1 million bail, a complaint against the daycare has been filed with the state licensing agency.

If your child was sexually abused by Antonio Chavez, it is important that you seek legal assistance as soon as possible. Based on the details surrounding the abuse, you could pursue a child sex abuse lawsuit and recover compensation.

Child Sex Abuse at At-Home Daycares

Unfortunately, child sex abuse has become very common. Although most people might believe that strangers pose the biggest risk to their children, the truth is that the attackers are usually people that children and their family trust. In at-home daycares, it is normal for the immediate family of the day care provider to be around children during certain times.

When applying for a license with the state, all adults in the home must obtain criminal record clearance from the state. Of course, this screening cannot flag any incidents of sexual abuse of children if nothing has been reported. Because of this, many attackers pass these screenings easily.

With young children, the attacker usually befriends the child to get their trust before starting to molest them. Although every situation is different, child sex abuse can include rape, attempted rape, sodomy, penetration with objects, forced kissing, forced touching, forcing the child to touch the attacker in any way, making sexual comments, ad more. Children can suffer extensive physical harm, which can include sexually transmitted infections, injuries to genitals, fractures, lacerations, and more. In addition, children can suffer significant mental and emotional harm, which can include post-traumatic stress, depression, panic, anxiety, and more.

If your child was a victim of Antonio Chavez, it is important that you seek legal assistance as soon as possible.

Can I File a Lawsuit?
Yes – you could sue. Of course, you could pursue criminal charges against the attacker; however, you could also pursue a civil lawsuit against the daycare provider. These day care providers are required to have liability insurance in case of harm to children under their care. Ultimately, these day care providers have a duty to keep children safe from all harm – including harm at the hands of other adults in the home.
