Kenmore and Frigidaire Electric Stove Recall Class Action Lawsuit
Electrolux Group is recalling over 200,000 Smooth-top Freestanding Electric Ranges under the Frigidaire and Kenmore brand names. The recall, which was issued as of May 16, 2024, is due to multiple reports of fires, burns, and smoke injuries caused by the product. So far, there have been 212 incidents of the stoves malfunctioning due to the following defects:
- The surface heating element may not turn off or turn on spontaneously.
- The stove may unexpectedly change to a different temperature while it’s in use.
Either of these issues can result in a fire that causes burns and other injuries from smoke inhalation. To determine if you own one of these stoves, click here for a list of serial and model numbers that are part of the recall. These electric ranges were sold between 2001 and 2009 at Sears department stores and various appliance retailers in the U.S.
To prevent an accident, don’t leave anything on the range when it’s not in use under direct supervision. You should also contact the manufacturer to determine if the stove can be repaired. If so, you can schedule a free inspection and repair service with Electrolux. If repairing the stove is not possible, you will receive $60 for the cost of hauling away the stove along with a $50 gift card. If you had the appliance hauled away and have documentation that it cost more than $60, the manufacturer will cover the amount that was paid.
The damage that can be done to people and their homes is frightening to think about when appliance makers fail in their duty of care to produce a safe product. Unfortunately, manufacturer negligence is extremely common, but those who are injured can seek compensation by filing a product liability claim. If you would like to learn more about suing for injuries and property damage caused by a Kenmore or Frigidaire stove, please take a moment to contact our office.

Fire is the biggest source of injury when electrical appliances have wiring issues and other defects. An electric stove, for example, may not turn off even when the user has clearly turned it to the “off” setting. This can lead to severe burn injuries and permanent disfigurement from scars and other injuries. Sometimes, an electric fire can result in an explosion, thereby causing people nearby to fall down or sustain injuries from the flying pieces of metal, plastic, and other debris. Many house fire victims end up with fractures, nerve damage, brain injury and other health issues, which is why it’s essential to hold the manufacturer responsible when a defective product is released on the market.
What to Do if You are Hurt in a Defective Product AccidentFrom the moment you have been injured in an accident, there are steps you should take to preserve evidence and start the process of building a case for compensation. As soon as possible, please take the following actions:
- Use your phone or another device to take pictures of any injuries and damage to your home / belongings. If, however, your injuries are potentially life-threatening (excessive bleeding, severe burns, etc.), go straight to the ER or call 911.
- No matter what type of injuries you have, see a doctor within 48 hours of the accident to establish a clear link between the product and the harm you suffered.
- Keep all your medical records and other documents that can be used as evidence in a safe place.
- Call the manufacturer and report the accident, but do not continue talking to them if they say you are on a recorded line. Also, make sure to turn down any offer of a refund or some other remedy, which can take away your right to demand monetary damages.
- Contact our office and seek help from a negligent product manufacturer attorney.
