Bulldog Biometric Gun Safes Recall Class Action Lawsuit

Bulldog Biometric Gun Safes Recall Class Action Lawsuit lawsuit liability compensation lawyer attorney sue

On February 22, 2024, Bulldog issued a recall for their Biometric Firearm Safes. According to the recall, number 24-130, the biometric lock on the gun safes is defective, so the lock can be opened by unauthorized users; this poses a severe injury hazard as well as the risk of death. The recall affects approximately 33,500 units of the product.

The recall specifically includes the following three products:

  • Magnum Biometric Pistol Vault – model # BD4030B (11.5in. x 8in. by 5.5in.)
  • Magnum Biometric Pistol Vault with Shelf – model # BD4040B (11.5in. x 10in. x 8in.)
  • Magnum Biometric Top Load Pistol Vault – model # BD4055B (11.5in. x 9.8in. x 2.5in.)

Model numbers can be found located on a label that is on a silver sticker on the back right corner of the affected safes; the brand-name “Bulldog” is on the front of the safes.

The biometric gun safes were sold in-store at Bass Pro Shops, Walmart, and firearm stores nationwide; the product was also available online via Amazon.com. The gun safes were available for purchase from July 2016 through January 2024 for prices ranging from $194 and $216.

So far, the company has received four reports of the gun sages being opened by unauthorized users; no injuries have been reported.

The company is urging consumers affected by the recall to stop using the biometric feature of the safe, remove the batteries, and use only the key when storing firearms in the safe. They are offering a free repair kit or a replacement safe for consumers with the Pistol Vaults (both regular and with shelf), while they are offering free replacements for consumers with the Top Load Pistol Vaults.

Although this might seem like a fair offer for consumers who have only been inconvenienced by the defective product, this is definitely not a remedy that affected consumers should consider. That is, if the defective product ultimately led to injuries to you or your family, you should not accept the offer of a repair kit or a replacement kit; instead, you should seek legal assistance and explore your right to sue.

Here at the Downtown L.A. Law Group, our legal team is ready to provide all affected consumers with the guidance that they need to fight for their rights under product liability law. If you are ready to explore the legal options available to you and learn more about your right to sue for the harm that you and your family suffered, contact us as soon as possible. Possible Injuries Associated with the Recalled Biometric Gun Safes

Gun safes are supposed to ensure that unauthorized parties cannot access firearms. When unauthorized parties access gun safes and get their hands on the firearms within, tragedies can happen. Let’s consider children, for example. Children are naturally curious. If they are able to access a gun safe and grab a hold of a firearm, the gun may discharge or the child may aim and shoot someone else in the home. Of course, other parties, including spouses, partners, other family members, and even intruders, may be able to access the firearm if the biometric gun feature does not work as it should. Gunshot injuries may occur, some of which could result in temporary or permanent disability – or even death.

If an injury or death occurred because of the defective gun safe, it is essential that you seek legal assistance as soon as possible. You may have the right to sue.

Steps to Take If the Defective Biometric Gun Safe Causes Harm

You might be wondering what to do if you were injured or if a member of your family died because of the defective gun safe. Consider the following recommendations:

  • Take photos of all visible injuries
  • Take photos of the entire scene of the accident
  • Take photos of the defective product
  • Seek medical care immediately and gather all relevant medical records
  • Contact the company to report the incident caused by the defective product and the resulting harm.
    • Never agree to a repair kit or to a free replacement
    • Never agree to return the defective product
    • Never accept any remedy or sign any document provided by the company
  • Speak to witnesses and gather their contact information
  • Gather any video footage that captured the incident (including home surveillance footage)
  • Seek legal assistance from an experienced recall lawyer as soon as possible.
