Bus Crash in San Bernardino County Declared Mass Casualty Incident

A bus carrying 36 people was involved in a fiery crash in the San Bernardino Mountains on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Firefighters declared it a mass casualty incident. Details surrounding the incident, including the cause of the crash, remain unknown.

Reportedly, officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the San Bernardino County Fire Department, and other surrounding agencies responded to the scene shortly before 9pm to reports of an overturned bus on State Route 330 near mile marker 38, more specifically in the Fredalba neighborhood of Running Springs.

One witness that was following behind the bus and knew many of the bus occupants stated that the young people aboard the bus were on their way back to their church in Santa Ana after attending a church event.

According to county fire officials, a total of 36 people, including teens and adults, were on the bus when it crashed. A total of 20 people were transported to the hospital, 3 of them with severe injuries. Officials stated that the “remainder of the passengers suffered minor injuries and were not transported or reported no injury at all.”

Can I File a Lawsuit?
Yes, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit for injuries caused by a bus accident. The right to sue is based on the concept of negligence. In general, to determine whether negligence is present, the cause of the incident must be determined.

In cases in which the incident was caused by the negligence of the bus driver (that is, the crash happened due to distracted driving, drunk driving, falling asleep behind the wheel, tailgating, speeding, etc.), then the bus driver could be found negligent. If the bus driver is an employee driving under a bus charter company, then the company may face liability for the bus driver’s actions. If the bus accident is caused by mechanical issues (like brake failures, engine failure, etc.), then the bus company that owns and operates the bus can be liable for the incident. If the bus is owned/operated by a private organization (like a church), then the private organization could be found negligent and be liable for any resulting harm.

If you or a member of your family sustained injuries in the bus crash described above or in any other bus-related incident, it is important that you seek legal help as soon as possible.

Can I Recover Any Compensation?

Yes, you could be eligible to recover compensation. Based on the details surrounding the incident, you could potentially recover compensation for some of the following:

  • Medical costs

  • Lost income

  • Pain and suffering

  • Punitive damages

  • Property damage

  • Wrongful death benefits

  • Legal expenses

  • And more

How Long Do I have to Sue?

All claims are subject to a statute of limitations or a deadline to sue. In general, failing to file claims on time could result in losing the right to sue entirely. So, how long do you have to pursue a claim? In California, personal injury claims are generally subject to a two-year statute of limitations, meaning that claimants will only have two years to file injury claims. Some exceptions may apply, however, that may ultimately toll or pause the deadline that applies. To ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the time that you have to file your claim, contact our team today.
