The state requires all employers to participate in the workers comp program. The employer pays for the coverage to assist any worker who is hurt while on the job. In addition, the coverage is provided to the workers at no cost to them and cannot be denied by the employer as long as the injuries were sustained while the employer was performing a task of their job. California Workers Comp BenefitsEmployees must open a claim for benefits with workers comp within 30 days of the injury incident if their employer refuses to or fails to take this action. Unless the claim is open in that time, the worker will not be able to use the benefits of the program, which include:

- Reimbursement of up to 66% of the workers average weekly income if they are unable to return to work immediately
