Southern California Teacher Accused of Abuse by Female Students – Teacher Misconduct Abuse Attorneys
Investigators with the Redlands Police Department are looking into allegations that a teacher at a local private school had inappropriate contact with multiple students over a three-year period. These allegations came to light on May 7, 2024.
The abuse is believed to have occurred at Redlands Adventist Academy, a K-12 school, which is located at 130 Tennessee Street. According to police, they believe that the unidentified male teacher has “inappropriately touched” at least five teen girls, all students, ranging in age from 14 to 17. They believe the latest incident occurred late last month (in Late April).
The school administration placed the teacher on administrative leave pending their own internal investigation, according to police.
The Redlands Police Department is conducting the criminal investigation. They believe that there may be additional victims. Anyone who was a victim or may have any information about the abuse that occurred at the school is urged to come forward and contact the authorities.

Although schools are supposed to be a safe place for students, countless students suffer abuse at the hand of their teachers. These teachers are trusted adults that use their positions to get close to youth and abuse them. Although every case is different, some examples of the abuse that students could suffer can include the following:
- Rape and attempted rape
- Sodomy
- Fondling, groping, or any other touching
- Kissing
- Forcing the victim to touch the attacker
- Forcing the victim to perform any sexual act to the attacker
- Making explicit comments/jokes
- Sending inappropriate texts, emails, images, videos, etc.
Yes, you could have the right to file a lawsuit against the Redlands Adventist Academy. Whether you are a parent looking to file on your child’s behalf or you are the victim looking to sue once you have turned eighteen, it is important that you understand your rights and the legal options available to you.
The right to sue for student sexual abuse at the hands of teachers is based on the duty of care owed by Redlands Adventist Academy. All schools, including this religious private school, have a duty to keep students safe. These schools must subject all their employees, including teachers, to background checks (both before they are hired and randomly after they are hired), training, and supervision. These schools must also have the necessary policies and procedures in place to allow both students and other teachers to report abuse (or even suspected abuse). These schools should also have clear investigation protocols.
Unfortunately, far too many schools fail to identify and/or address abuse that has been reported by students, parents, or other staff. In addition, many schools actually actively cover-up abuse that occurs on their campuses. When this happens, the school could be held liable.

Teacher Abuse Can Lead to Extensive HarmWhen teachers act inappropriately towards minor students and engage in any sexual misconduct, the victim could suffer significant harm. Examples of the injuries that victims could suffer include the following:
- Sexually transmitted infections
- Unwanted pregnancies (and a number of complications related to pregnancy)
- Injuries to genitals
- Injuries to reproductive organs
- Mental and emotional harm, such as post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, fear, and panic
- Increased risk of self-harm
- Increased risk of substance abuse
In California, victims of child sex abuse have until they are forty years old to file lawsuits; this gives them twenty-two years from the age of eighteen to file their claims. There is also a five-year discovery rule, meaning that victims can file their claims within five years of discovering the harm caused by the abuse – even if they are already passed the age of forty. Thanks to this discovery rule, victims can sue even if they have blanks in their memory due to suppressed memories caused by the trauma (many victims uncover abuse after extensive therapy).
If you are a parent, you can sue on your child’s behalf. You can bring forth a claim while your child is still underage. However, you must understand that your child will not be able to pursue another claim for their abuse once they are adults.
If you fail to file your claim on time, you could lose your right to sue entirely. To ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the total length of time that you have to file your claim, contact us today.
You could be entitled to receive compensation. Some of the categories of compensation that could be available for victims of child sex abuse at schools can include the following:
- Medical expenses
- Lost earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Punitive damages
- Treble damages
- Legal expenses
A Note on Treble Damages: Treble damages are awarded in cases in which the sexual abuse was covered up by the school or establishment. Treble damages essentially triple the total damages awarded. Therefore, if the school was aware of the abuse but covered it up, victims could be entitled up to three times the recovery. For example, if a claim is determined to be worth $1 million, treble damages would make the claim worth up to $3 million.
What You Could Recover: How much compensation can I be awarded? How much can I receive for my school sexual abuse claim? The value of claims is determined by the facts, which include the type of abuse suffered, the resulting injuries, the severity of the injuries. In general, child sex abuse cases are considered high-value cases. These cases can be worth anywhere from $500,000 to $5 million.
