RadWagon 4 Electric Cargo Bikes Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On November 3, 2022, Rad Power Bikes issued a recall for their RadWagon 4 Electric Cargo Bikes. According to the recall, number 23-709, the rim strip on the tires can be misaligned. This can cause the tube to pop and damage the tires. In addition, tires with the ribbed sidewall can go flat unexpectedly. These hazards pose a risk of injury to riders and they can lose control and crash. The recall affects approximately 29,300 units of the product.
The recall specifically includes the ebikes that were sold in black, white, and orange. They have “RADWAGON” printed on the side of the upper downtube and “RAD POWER BIKES” on the lower downtube of the frame. The recall also includes spare tires that were sold separately – the Rad Power Bikes by VEE Tire Co. measuring 22 inches by 3 inches.
The recalled e-bikes were sold at Rad Power Bikes stores nationwide as well as online via radpowerbike.com from September 2020 to August 2022 for approximately $2,000 each. The tires were $40.
So far, the company has receive 137 reports of the tires on the ebikes blowing out, deflating, and separating from the sidewalls. These reports include 8 injuries, most of which included road rash, cuts, and bruises; there was also one report of a broken arm, and one report of a broken wrist.
The company is urging all consumers affected by the recall to immediately stop using the product and contact them to schedule a free repair to replace the tires and rim strips. Although this might seem like an attractive offer, it is important that consumers who were harmed by the defective product do not accept a free repair and replacement but rather seek legal assistance. You and your family could have the right to sue for the harm caused by the defective product.
