Onewheel GT Electric Skateboard Footpads Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On Augusts 11, 2022, Future Motion issued a recall for the footpads for their Onewheel GT Electric Skateboards. According to the recall, number 22-766, the footpad can fail to disengage after the rider has dismounted the electric skateboard while it is still in motion. Because of this, the skateboard can continue to operate, posing an injury risk to bystanders. The recall affects over 20,000 products.
More specifically, this recall affects the front footpads of the self-balancing electric skateboards, which were sold either with the skateboard or separately as replacements. The products were sold online via www.onewheel.com from March 2022 to June 2022 and in stores at independent dealers nationwide from March 2022 to August 2022.
So far, the company has received over 800 reports of the electric skateboards continuing to operate even after the rider has dismounted. This includes at least 11 reports of injuries, consisting of bruises, friction burns, and twisted ankles.
