Killed Motorcyclist on I-5 by a Suspected Drunk Driver | 3/8/2021

Saturday night, approximately at 9:30 p.m., a 67 years old man was killed after a driver, suspected drunk, crashed into him. The man whose identity will be revealed after the family is informed was declared dead at the scene by the rescuers, according to authorities.

California Highways Patrol’s (CHP) voice, officer Jim Young, informed the victim was on a 1993 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, heading to Highway 50, more or less at 9:30 p.m., when he was hit by a 2009 BMW, northbound on I-5,

After the impact, the motorcyclist was thrown straight into traffic, where he was hit, again, by a 2009 Honda Fit, causing the injuries that took his life.

The presumably DUI driver, Careem Mayfield, 43, was arrested and suspected of drunkenness by officers, told the arrest officers he was on his cellphone at the moment of the incident.

The driver of the 2009 Honda Fit was arrested too but released, however, after his cooperation with investigators.

However, The BMW driver, Careem Mayfield is still in custody, imprisoned in Sacramento Country Main Jail. His bail is 1 million dollars.

His charges are vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license for previous DUI offenses.

The accident is still under investigation.
