Contempt of court is a court order which, in the context of a court trial or hearing, declares a person or organization to have disobeyed or been disrespectful of the court’s authority. Contempt or Contempt of Court as it is generally refereed to is a court order in which a presiding judge or judges who are presiding in a case declare the an individual, (either a person or an organization) have disobeyed a direct order of the court or in some way have gravely affects the prestige and honor of the court by displaying some form of disrespectful conduct. Contempt is a judges strongest authority, and he can impose harsh sanctions such as jail time and heavy fines.
