U-Haul Truck Evades Police in Southeast LA, Couple Inside Share Kiss Before Arrest | 1-3-2018

On January 3, 2018, a female driver and her male passenger evaded the police in a car chase as they drove in a U-Haul truck. The couple are in custody after being barricaded by the police in the afternoon, and sharing a kiss before the police officers used a stun gun. The woman drove until she crashed in Montebello against another truck. The two suspects remained barricaded until the woman tried to turn herself in, initially failing. The man in the passenger seat next to her appeared to hold her back before they both eventually got out of the vehicle and shared a kiss before the authorities approached the couple and used a stun gun to subdue the man. The pursuit lasted nearly an hour in the Southeast area of Los Angeles until the woman crashed in Montebello. The driver eventually stopped, but refused to exit the vehicle; police are not treating this situation as a barricaded situation. The Bell Gardens police department were the ones that initially started the road pursuit until the California Highway Patrol took over. The driver sped through multiple neighborhoods to evade the police. There were a total of five police cars that joined in the pursuit. The driver led officers on and off highways and on surface streets until eventually leading the police back to the Bell Gardens area. The driver would even get stuck in traffic, but then continued to evade police. At around 11:35 a.m., the truck got a flat tire but continued to escape police. After the crash, the passengers appeared to throw items out of the truck as the police waited for them to finish and step out of the truck with their guns drawn behind the truck.
