What is Maven Insurance Policy?

Uber has recently decided to partner with different programs that provide rental cars to individuals who need vehicles. Normal rental agencies have partnered as well, such as Hertz, but specific businesses have risen up and come into development to fit this new sector. As such, there are various legal grey areas that must be figured out, and the issues of liability are rife. Maven is one such company that provides rental cars to prospective Uber drivers, and its insurance policy is often a piece of contention for those who rent the cars. It is especially troublesome in the time of accidents, as many drivers do not know their rights. They call and ask us, “Am I covered by Maven insurance in an accident?” Our law firm, the Downtown LA Law Group, can help you figure out who is liable for your injuries and what you should do to have the most success with your claim.

Maven Information

Maven is a car rental company that provides different types of vehicles for weekly rentals. The type of vehicle you select will also determine the cost you pay per week. A compact car costs $199 per week; a sedan costs $219 per week; a crossover costs $209 per week; and an electric vehicle costs $325 per week. There is no security deposit required for any vehicle. All of the fees, though, are excluding taxes, gas, and other costs. What Maven insurance policy - Am I covered by Maven insurance in an accident Any car you select will come with certain perks and benefits. You do not have to worry about mileage when driving the car; you have unlimited miles to work with, so you can drive for Uber as long as you want per day without incurring any penalties. You are also given unlimited routine maintenance, which means you won’t have to pay for tires and rotations, windshield cracks and replacement wipers, oil and fluid changes, and more. There is also no long-term commitment with Maven. You get 7-day rental periods that can be renewed. In order to get started with Maven, you will need to have a valid driver’s license, be over the age of 21 to drive, be the only person behind the wheel, and undergo a background check verify your eligibility.

Maven Insurance

With every Maven vehicle, you get insurance included. This liability insurance is generally the state minimum for coverage. Also included is the damage waiver, which allows you to reduce or eliminate fees that racked up in an accident. This is not insurance in and of itself, though. The specific language in Maven’s membership agreement states the following:Insurance is provided on Maven Vehicles while you are operating the Maven Vehicle under Maven Car Sharing in compliance with the terms of this Agreement. Maven’s automobile liability insurance for Maven Vehicles provides coverage of at least the minimum financial responsibility limits required by state law. If this Agreement is violated or if other parties claim damages (such as for personal injury or property damage) then you may be liable to Maven or to such other parties beyond those limits. Violations of this Agreement may void the insurance coverage provided by Maven. For insurance provided on Peer Vehicles, please refer to Section A3 of this Agreement.” “Every member who complies with the membership contract is covered up to the minimum state required levels while driving a Maven car. We provide complimentary insurance to all members. You will be responsible for damage to the car up to the deductible. You also may be responsible for damages if you do not follow program rules or drive recklessly.” “Insurance is included, but if you happen to be involved in an incident with your Maven car, a damage fee of up to $1000 will apply. A damage fee can apply for dents, scratches, collisions, windshield cracks, vandalism, and third party damages.” These statements were taken from Maven’s website and outline the different routes for insurance. There are also possibilities that you can have insurance coverage through your own auto insurance company if you have coverage as well as through a credit card.

Maven Liability

If you are driving a Maven car and you are involved in a car accident, you would likely be able to hold the other party accountable for the damages. You can take legal action and sue his insurance agency to get the compensation you deserve. However, there are times when the other driver may flee the scene, and you will need t pursue underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage through Maven. It can be extremely difficult to acquire compensation from Maven’s insurance company, as most rental car agencies are exempt from the program, especially if you are only driving the car by yourself. However, if you are driving a Maven vehicle during your Uber trip, you could likely take action against Uber instead Rental car agencies can only be held accountable if they allow someone to drive who legally should not be behind the wheel, such as someone with a suspended license or someone who is underage. They can also be blamed if they provide a defective vehicle, since all cars must be properly inspected before being rented out to users. You can take action against Uber, though, and invoke their insurance if you cannot find Maven liable. Uber’s insurance is different from Maven’s and is activated once you turn the app on. Upon waiting for a ride, you will be covered for $50,000 in liability; when you accept a ride, that coverage increases to $1,000,000 and covers you and your passengers. You are also covered for up to a$250,000 in uninsured/underinsured motorist damage. Therefore, if you are driving a Maven vehicle but you are not working for Uber at the time, Maven will have you covered in the event of an accident. If you turn the app on and begin a shift for Uber, though, Uber’s insurance will take over, and you will be covered through the company. Bear in mind that both companies may try to claim that the other is liable for your damages, or may even claim that neither is responsible. It would be in your best interest, then, to hire an expert Maven car accident attorney or Uber accident lawyer for your damages.

Proof for Your Maven Lawsuit

If you were in a car accident and you wish to sue Maven or sue Uber, you should follow these steps for your claim. They will allow you to stay safe and have enough evidence to properly sue.

  • Get medical help from the paramedics or go to the hospital at once
  • Do not wait to see a doctor, as your damages may worsen or the insurance agent may laim you were not as injured as you stated
  • Keep medical receipts
  • Take photos of your injuries
  • Take pictures of the damage to the Maven vehicle and other involved cars
  • Acquire any available surveillance footage or dash cam videos
  • Interview eyewitnesses and bystanders for their statements and testimonies
  • Keep your Maven paperwork
  • Take a screenshot of the Uber app and trip you were
  • Get a copy of the police report to add to your evidence
  • File an incident report with both Maven and Uber
  • Contact an expert Maven accident attorney or Uber car accident lawyer to resolve your case

We always recommend finding legal representation for your lawsuit. You may not have the knowledge, time, experience, money, or drive to handle a lawsuit by yourself, and you should focus on healing and returning to your normal life after an accident. The insurance agent is likely to throw away your claim anyway if you do not have any negotiating experience. By leaving your lawsuit up to your attorney, you can guarantee that you have the best chance of success.

Compensation from a Maven Lawsuit

By filing a lawsuit against Maven or Uber for damages sustained in a car accident, you can receive ample restitution for your losses. You should not be expected to pay for your own damages if you were not responsible for them. You can win the following:

  • Medical bills from the past and future
  • Lost income from the past and future
  • Property damage
  • Pain and suffering damages for emotional trauma
