Breaking News – One person has died and three others were seriously injured after a rollover crash near the interchange of two major freeways in the early hours of Sunday, September 29, 2024. The incident occurred on the 134 Freeway eastbound connector with the southbound 5 Freeway in the Griffith Park area at approximately 12:50am. According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports of a single-vehicle crash.

When the authorities arrived, they found a gray sedan on its roof with extensive damage. They found that one of the occupants had been ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the crash. Two individuals were trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed from the vehicle with hydraulic rescue tools. One person was able to escape the vehicle on their own. There was a total of four victims involved in the crash.

Of the survivors, one person is said to be in grave condition and the other two in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation. It is unclear whether impairment or speed, or both, were factors in the crash.

Some of the Possible Causes of Car Accidents

Some of the potential causes of car accidents include the following:

  • Impaired driving (including drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs or prescription medication, etc.)
  • Distracted driving (using mobile devices, cell phones, etc.)
  • Speeding and reckless driving, in general (weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, ignoring traffic rules/signals, etc.)
  • Dangerous weather conditions
  • Dangerous hazards or defects present in vehicles (defective brakes, defective electrical systems, sudden loss of power, etc.)
  • Dangerous road conditions (blind intersections, poorly lit roads, defective traffic signals, etc.)

In the incident above, the crash resulted in the vehicle rolling over. Multiple factors, like speed, point of impact, and object struck (like a center divider, railing, etc.) can contribute vehicles rolling over in single-vehicle crashes.

Examples of Injuries Resulting from Car Accidents

Although every incident is different, victims may suffer some of the following harm:

  • Head injuries, including concussions and traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Neck injuries and back injuries
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Hip injuries
  • Pelvic injuries
  • Knee injuries
  • Severed limbs
  • Crushing injuries
  • Punctured organs
  • Muscle damage
  • Nerve damage
  • Ligament damage
  • Sprains and strains
  • Lacerations
  • Scrapes and bruises
  • Burns

Although these injuries might seem minor listed above, these injuries could potentially be very dangerous. Whether you suffered injuries or a member of your family lost his or her life in a car accident, it is important that you seek legal assistance as soon as possible. You could have the right to file a lawsuit.

Liability for Rollover Car Accidents

Liability for auto accidents is based on the details surrounding the incident. In general, car accidents occur as a result of the negligent actions of drivers, so liability falls on these negligent drivers (and, in some cases, their employers if the incident occurred in a company vehicle). Many other entities could be liable for car accidents. These entities could include auto manufacturers and road work agencies, for example.

A major part of pursuing a claim after a car accident is determining liability. If you have questions about liability and your right to file a lawsuit, please do not hesitate to reach out to our legal team as soon as possible. Our experts are ready to guide you every step of the way.

How Long Do I Have to Sue?

In California, car accident claims are normally subject to a two-year statute of limitations, which gives claimants two years to file their car accident claims. This applies to injury claims and wrongful death claims alike. In instances where government entities are involved, claims are subject to a six-month statute of limitations; based on the entity’s response (or lack of response), victims can have either six months or two years to file civil lawsuits.
