Obtener un coche a través de Uber en California
It can be hard to find a second job to squeeze in between all your daily responsibilities, and that’s why people enjoy the flexibility of driving for Uber. However, it would seem that rideshare driving is limited to people that own a car, but thankfully, that has changed in recent years. Over time, Uber began to implement programs to increase their army of drivers. Initially, they developed a vehicle financing program that allowed you to obtain a car loan from Uber. This program – Uber Xchange Leasing – was replaced by another program, known as Uber Vehicle Solutions.
History of Uber Xchange Leasing
Many people have probably never even heard of Uber Xchange Leasing, which was a short-lived program that was shut down in 2017 because of high losses. The program’s target audience was prospective car buyers who were getting rejections from other lenders due to low credit scores and other reasons. In exchange for a car loan, you must agree to drive for Uber and have your lease payment automatically deducted once a week from your earnings.
On the surface, this was an opportunity for people to get the car they wanted, while making some extra money on the side. However, there were numerous problems that eventually caused the program to be sold to a third party company in 2018. For example, Uber did not seek out reputable dealers that offered competitive rates, so the leases came with exorbitant interest rates. In general, drivers paid around 20% more to buy a car through Uber’s Vehicle Marketplace, and these payments came out of their paychecks every week.
Drivers also accused Uber of misleading them on certain terms and conditions. A good example is the company promising unlimited miles for lease holders, when there is actually an imposed limit of 40,000 miles. In addition, there were discrepancies with financing options, like drivers finding out that the interest rates were much higher than what they were promised.
These and other problems resulted in approximately 40,000 cars being returned at the end of the lease period. The loss per vehicle was much higher than Uber had anticipated, and that was one of the reasons for the program’s cancellation. Uber also ended up paying more than $20,000,000 in legal fines and settlements in lawsuits filed by former lease holders.

The end of Uber Exchange Leasing didn’t mean that the company stopped looking for ways to entice rideshare drivers with the promise of having a car at their disposal. In April 2021, the company announced its “Uber Rent” program that allowed users to rent cars nationwide from numerous dealers like Hertz and Avis. This was targeted toward people who wanted a car for personal reasons, but the app has an alternative option for car rentals that are used for ridesharing. So, you could still view available cars on Uber’s Vehicle Marketplace and choose a rental offer from a partner company.
Uber actually had rental car options starting in 2016, where people could rent automobiles through Hertz. However, the 2021 re-launch meant that just about anybody could find a rental car agency in their local area and work as an Uber driver or use the car for errands, going to work, and other personal reasons.
So, let’s take a look at some of partnership programs that allow you to rent a car after signing up as an Uber driver:
Fair Rental CarsFair is a car rental agency that is partnered with Uber and has automobiles that are eligible for Uber’s Rewards program. According to the program, drivers using a Fair rental vehicle can earn $185 for completing 70 trips within one week. If they complete 120 trips in a week, they can earn another $305. So, making 70 trips per week would cover the $185 rental fee charged by Fair, which is deducted automatically from your Uber account. Anything above that would be income that you get to keep. Please note that Fair charges a refundable security deposit of $185.
HertzHertz is one of the most recognizable names in the rental car industry, and they have had a partnership with Uber since 2016. While they have a strong reputation for reliability and quality vehicles, the company charges $214 per week for a rental car – more than the $185 charged by Fair. So, you would have to make additional trips to cover the weekly cost, thereby making the arrangement more suitable for full-time Uber drivers.
Cómo llegarGetaround is a fast and convenient service that offers car rentals for as little as one hour. For just $5 an hour, it’s a great option for running errands or occasional trips, but you can also rent a Getaround vehicle for Uber rides. The only problem is that the listings are placed by many different individuals. These people can set their own prices, and it’s always a crap shoot as to whether the car is available.
The service charges a $1 booking fee and drivers are responsible for inspecting the vehicle before going for a ride. If you were renting from a major agency like Hertz, this would be taken care of by the company before you pick up the car. You must also fill the tank before returning the car, or you will be charged for the gas, along with a $15 fee. You may also be charged up to $100 if the car hasn’t been cleaned, and any tickets, toll fees, etc., will result in separate fees.
MavenMaven is a rental company that charges competitive weekly rates for Uber drivers. The company has various lots where you can pick up a listed rental car, whether you need a car for a few days or on a daily basis for ridesharing. Maven also provides car rentals for other types of gig-based work, like food and grocery delivery services.
Please note that all vehicles rented via the Uber app have unlimited mileage, which is essential for anyone who plans on working as a driver. Your monthly rental fee also comes with roadside maintenance and other services that you may need to rely on throughout your trips. Some people will find that the overall cost of leasing a vehicle through Avis or another rental company is lower than a traditional lease. Furthermore, the on-going monthly fees give you the chance to have a car immediately compared to saving up for many months to buy a car outright.
Vehicle Accident Protocols and SolutionsNo matter what type of accident you are in or who is at fault, it’s essential that you report the incident to Uber, as well as the rental company. For example, let both companies know that someone crashed into you at an intersection and the injuries you sustained. Both Uber and the rental agency have their own form of insurance coverage for accidents, and this will determine how you file a claim for bodily injury and property damage.
Uber drivers must have their own car insurance, but the company provides additional coverage in certain cases. For example, if you are transporting a passenger or on the way to pick someone up, you are covered for up to $1,000,000 in the event of an accident. The insurance policy also applies if you are hurt tin an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver. If you are logged into the app and waiting for a ride, the coverage limit is reduced to $50,000 per person for injuries, with a limit of $100,000 per accident.
Make sure to establish evidence that can help you in a claim by taking photos of your injuries and the accident scene. Call the police as well so that an accident report is filed and seek medical care right away so that you have medical records showing the harm you suffered.
