Campus police issued a crime alert on Monday, February 17, 2025 informing of their search for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a UCLA student on campus. The UCLA Police Department stated that the suspect, who is not a student, arrived at Cypress Court (located in the 700 block of North Lane) at around 10:15pm on Sunday. The man was on campus delivering food to a student.
According to the police, while the student was getting the food from the delivery man, the suspect touched the victim’s body against their will. The students’ identity was not released.

Sexual Assault by Delivery DriversEvery incident of sexual assault is different. These incidents can consist of the following:
- Rape and attempted rape
- Sodomy
- Penetration with objects
- Groping, touching, fondling, and any unwanted touching
- Making inappropriate or sexually explicit jokes or comments
- Forcing the victim to perform any sexual act
- And more
Without a doubt, sexual assault can cause physical injuries. Injuries could include unwanted pregnancy, pregnancy-related complications, sexually transmitted infections, injuries to genitals, injuries to reproductive organs, and other injuries associated with the use of force. Additionally, victims of sexual assault may suffer psychological injuries, which could include post-traumatic stress, panic, anxiety, fear, and more.
Can I File a Lawsuit for Sexual Abuse at UCLA?Yes – you could have the right to file a lawsuit if you were sexually assaulted at UCLA. In the situation described above, the victim could potentially have grounds to file a civil lawsuit for sexual assault against the delivery service company that the attacker was delivering under. Even in cases in which the delivery driver is an independent contractor, food delivery companies like UberEat and Postmates, for example, could be liable based on the failure to properly background check the driver or the failure to address reports made against the driver. However, it is also important to note that the university could also face liability. Universities like UCLA could potentially be liable based on the failure to keep students safe. For example, there may be inadequate police patrol, poorly lit areas, isolated areas, unsecured doors (like dorm building doors that do not lock), etc. that can increase the risk of incidents; if incidents occur because of dangerous conditions, then the university could be liable and could be sued.
