Burning Man is an event that lasts approximately one week (including the Labor Day holiday). Thousands of people travel to Black Rock Desert in Pershing County, Nevada and build a temporary city called Black Rock City. Because of this, event organizers released a statement urging all participants to shelter in place and preserve resources (food, water, and fuel). Still, many people attempted to leave, resulting in countless vehicles getting stuck in the mud.
According to the organizers, as of noon on September 6, 2023, participants continued to exit the even smoothly.
So far, there has been one report of a fatality – although there are no details surrounding the cause of the death. It is unclear whether there were any other incidents.
