SMEG Refrigerators Recall Class Action Lawsuit
SMEG USA has announced a recall for around 900 refrigerators that were sold between September 2020 through January 2024 at appliance stores nationwide and online at williams-sonoma.com, ajmadison.com and wayfair.com. The doors on the refrigerators have been known to detach, which can cause serious injuries to anyone that is using the fridge. Recalled fridges are the retro style with the freezer placed on the bottom. All units measure 28 by 30 by 80 inches, and were sold in the following colors: black, cream, pastel blue, pastel green, red and white. Both left and right-opening fridges with serial numbers beginning with 2781 are being recalled.
SMEG is offering a free repair service to all consumers, which they can receive by emailing a photo of the unit’s serial and model number to recall@smegusa.com. But is this the right things to do if a falling SMEG refrigerator door caused harm to you or your loved one? The better course of action is to contact a lawyer who can sue for negligence by a product manufacturer. A refrigerator door is large and heavy, with hard surfaces and sharp corners. If the door falls off while you are opening the fridge, there’s a good chance that your feet or toes will be crushed. This can cause serious injuries, like broken bones and nerve damage. If the door falls forward, you may fall down from the unexpected weight of the door falling against you. This can lead to head trauma (skull fracture and brain injury), wrist sprain, fractured tailbone and other conditions that require immediate medical treatment. Even cuts from a refrigerator door falling off can result in serious complications, like bacterial infection.
What to Do if You are InjuredConsidering how dangerous these accidents can be, medical care should be your first priority if you are hurt from a SMEG refrigerator door falling off. Along with medical care, please take the steps listed below:
- Save all your medical records along with anything else that can be used as evidence (photos of your injuries and the defective product, witness statements, proof of wages lost from work, etc.)
- Make sure to notify the manufacturer of the incident, but say no if they ask for a recorded statement. You should also turn down any offers from the manufacturer, whether it’s a free repair service or a refund. Anything you accept at this point can minimize the company’s liability and make it hard for you to file a lawsuit.
- Call our office as soon as possible and talk to a product recall class action lawyer.
By the time a product maker announces a recall, it’s more than likely that people have been injured due to a problem that was not resolved during the manufacturing process. Though each of these people can sue on their own, it makes sense to file a claim as a group, which is known as a class action lawsuit. By contacting our law firm, you can be part of a SMEG refrigerators recall class action claim. To start the legal process with help from one of our attorneys, give us a call to schedule a free case review.
