REI Co-Op Cycles REV Kids Bike Recall Class Action Lawsuit

REI Co-Op Cycles REV Kids Bike Recall Class Action Lawsuit liability lawyer attorney sue compensation incident

On June 27, 2024, REI issued a recall for all model years of their Co-Op Cycles REV 12-, 16, and 20-inch Kid’s Bicycles with training wheels. According to the recall, number 24-283, the training wheel assembly knob can loosen and detach from the bicycles; this poses a fall and injury risk to riders. The recall affects over 75,000 units of the product.

The recall includes bicycles with serial numbers beginning with “ET22,” “ET23,” “01VX” or “07VX.” This number can be found printed underneath the bike frame either on the bottom bracket or down tube.

More specifically, the following models, SKU/Article numbers, and colors are included in the recall:

  • Co-op Cycles REV 12 Kids Bike – #190741 in Bondi (green)
  • Co-op Cycles REV 12 Kids Bike – #190741 in Pencil (yellow)
  • Co-op Cycles REV 16 Kids Bike – #190742 in Surfs Up (blue)
  • Co-op Cycles REV 16 Kids Bike – #190742 in Catch Up (red)
  • Co-op Cycles REV 16 Kids Bike – #190743 in Four Leaf (green)
  • Co-op Cycles REV 20 Kids Bike – #190742 in Plum Burst (purple)

These bicycles were sold at REI stores around the country as well as online from March 2022 through May 2024 for prices ranging from $200 and $300.

The company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the bicycles immediately and contact their local REI store to schedule a free repair (specifically, replacement training wheel attachments). Additionally, some consumers may have the option of a free repair kit being shipped out to them. Bicycles being used without training wheels can continue to be used as-is.

If your child suffered injuries, however, it is important that you do not agree to any remedy offered by the company; rather, you should seek legal assistance as soon as possible. Based on the details surrounding your claim, you could have the right to file a product liability lawsuit. You could also be entitled to receive compensation for medical costs, lost pay, pain and suffering, and more. Can I File a Class Action Lawsuit?

Yes, considering how many units are affected by the recall, it is very likely that there will be class action claims – especially considering that there have already been reported injuries. How can I join/be a part of a class action lawsuit on this case? In general, participating in a class action or mass torts claim can be as simple as reaching out to a lawyer. Is there a class action lawsuit? Since the recall is very recent, it may be too early for there to already be a class action lawsuit. However, your lawsuit could actually be the first to start a class action claim. For more information about the legal options available to you, contact a class action lawyer as soon as possible.
