Liberty Hardware Muli-Grip Tub Safety Bars Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On September 26, 2024, Liberty Hardware issued a recall for their Multi-Grip Tub Safety Bars. According to the recall, number 24-24-378, the plastic sticker grip pads can become dislodged after their installation on tubs with tapered side walls, resulting in the safety bars being unstable during use; this poses a fall hazard. The recall affects approximately 174,500 units of the product.
The recall includes the Multi-Grip Tub Safety Bars sold under the following brands:
- Peerless (model PL585)
- Safety First (models SF585 and S1F585)
- Delta (model DF585)
The safety bars are powder-coated aluminum and were sold in the color white; they have a one-inch diameter tube with two gripping surfaces at 8-inches and 15-inches. The brand name and the model number can be found listed on a label on the product’s packaging.
Reportedly, Liberty Hardware has received at least fourteen reports of the plastic sticker grip pads dislodging after installation or needing replacement; one of these reports includes a fall with minor injuries.
The defective safety bars were sold in-store at Ace Hardware, Lowe’s, Menards, The Home Depot, Walmart, and other hardware stores and plumbing stores/suppliers nationwide. They were also available online via Amazon.com and FlyingBulldogs.com. The defective product was sold for prices ranging between $16 and $55 from January 2011 through May 2024.
The company is urging all affected consumers to immediately stop using the recalled safety bars and contact Liberty Hardware; affected consumers can request a pre-paid label and free packaging to return the bars for a $35 refund.
