How many times have you ordered food through a food-delivery service? Most of us have found ourselves not wanting to cook or go out to buy something at least a few times. These are the moments that these food delivery services have proven to be most beneficial. Throughout the years, many of these companies have become popular – allowing hungry customers to order and receive food without actually having to go to a restaurant. Uber Eats is one of these companies.

Uber Eats is a subsidiary of Uber. It is an online food ordering and delivery platform. Uber Eats was launched (by Uber) in 2014. Uber Eats started as UberFRESH in Santa Monica, California. UberFRESH services were available within Uber’s rideshare app. By 2015, the service had been renamed to Uber Eats and was given its own application. Uber Eats allows customers to access menus, order food, and pay for their food both online or via a mobile application (compatible with iOS and Android platforms). Orders can be delivered by delivery partners in cars, bicycles, and even on foot.

There is no doubt that Uber Eats has been successful in the years that it has been operating. However, many people have begun questioning the service’s success – especially because they have constantly had issues while using the service. What type of issues are customers having? Many Uber Eats customers have had a number of issues that have been worsened by Uber Eats’ refusal to provide them with refunds. Customers are essentially losing money while Uber Eats continues to grow.

Uber Eats, like a number of other food-delivery services, is taking advantage of their customers. Uber Eats is scamming their customers and pocketing millions in refunds. Have you ever had problems with an Uber Eats order? If so, you might have requested a refund. Have you been denied a refund which you were rightfully owed? Unfortunately, you are not the only one affected by this. Many people have been left without a refund after issues with their orders.

Can you do anything to ensure that you are properly refunded? You and many other affected customers might have grounds to participate in a class action lawsuit against Uber Eats. You could hold Uber Eats accountable for the money that you are owed. If you would like to learn more about the possibility of participating in a class action lawsuit against Uber Eats, do not hesitate to seek legal assistance with the experts at our firm immediately.

How Does Uber Eats Work?

Uber Eats, like most other delivery services, claims to be a platform connecting merchants and customers via delivery partners rather than just a food delivery service. The Uber Eats service allows customers to place an order with a restaurant; the restaurant then fulfills the order. A delivery partner can accept to deliver any order. Once a delivery partner accepts an order, he or she simply arrives at the designated restaurant to pick up the order; once the order has been picked up, the delivery partner travels to the customer’s designated drop-off location. Customers can track their order’s progress the entire time – they could even track the progress of delivery partners on a live map via the app. The app also allows the customer and the delivery partner to contact each other. Once the delivery is complete (the customer receives the order), the delivery partner marks the order as delivered and moves on to the next delivery. In most cases, delivery partners are handling multiple orders at once.

Consumers are Complaining about Uber Eats

Although many people are satisfied with the service provided by Uber Eats, many others have not had positive experience. Consider some of the following complaints different consumers have made against Uber Eats (note that these reviews were posted online):

  • August 2018 – [Uber Eats] “constantly delivers incorrect items then refuses to give you a refund.” The customer was told that she “would not receive [a] refund as they do not believe [her].”
  • September 2018 – the customer claimed that he or she was scammed by Uber Eats. Specifically, “the driver arrived near [the] house [while the customer] watched on the tracker then waited at the door. After going back to [the] phone [the customer] missed a call that could not be [called back]. The driver never got out of his car or delivered the food.” After contacting Uber Eats, the customer was informed that a refund would not be possible because the driver allegedly attempted the delivery.
  • December 2019 – the customer ordered something that totaled $25. According to the customer, “every bit of [the order] was wrong or missing].” Uber Eats offered to refund only $3 for the entire incorrect order.
  • December 2019 – the customer was offered “$5 back for [the] $32 order that was all wrong and messed up. Items were missing.”
  • December 2019 – the customer ordered two separate orders. On both occasions, the Uber Eats app states that the order has been delivered but the food has never arrived. Upon contacting Uber Eats, the customer was denied refunds.
  • January 2020 – the customer’s “order never arrived even though they marked [it] being delivered, takes ages for [Uber Eats] to get back to [the customer.]”
  • January 2020 – the customer was charged “four times over three days [with] all different amounts.” When the customer repeatedly attempted to speak with Uber Eats representatives regarding the charges, customer services representatives constantly avoided a straightforward resolution.
  • January 2020 – the customer “was sent food that was of terrible quality and when raising a complaint for a partial refund [the request was denied].

Even though these complaints are all valid, Uber Eats is repeatedly refusing to give their customers the refunds that they are owed and is actively scamming their customers and cheating them out of their money. Unfortunately, this is common practice among food-delivery services.

Reasons that Consumers Request Refunds

Many of disregard issues with Uber Eats and denied requests for refunds as incidents that do not represent the entire company. However, the experiences that customers are having prove otherwise. Customers are constantly having issues with their orders; most of these issues warrant full or partial refunds.

Some of the most common issues that lead to customers asking for refunds include the following:

  • Being billed multiple times for the same order
  • Being overcharged for the order
  • Not receiving the order (but the order has been marked as delivered on the app)
  • Receiving a damaged order
  • Receiving an incomplete order
  • Receiving an incorrect order
  • Receiving an inedible order
  • Receiving an order that has been tampered with

Have you ever encountered any of these issues with your Uber Eats order? If so, you are not alone. Countless dissatisfied Uber Eats customers are having issues with their orders and requesting refunds – most of the requests for refunds are never approved.
