Trek Bicycles Recall Class Action Lawsuit Lawyers
On August 25, 2022, Trek issued a recall for the following products:
- Trek Model Year 2022 Speed Concept SLR
- Trek Model Year 2021-2022 Emonda SLR
- Model Year 2020- 2022 aftermarket Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C handlebars/stems
According to the recall, number 22-209, the bicycle’s carbon handlebars can crack; this poses a crash and fall risk to users. The recall affects approximately 3,200 units of the bicycles and about 900 units of the aftermarket handlebar stems.
The affected bicycles and aftermarket parts were sold nationwide and online at trekbikes.com and other online retailers from May 2022 to June 2022. The Speed Concept SLR models were sold for prices ranging from $8,800 to $13,5000. The Emonda SLR models were sold for prices ranging from $6,700 to $13,000. The Bontrager Aeolus RSL/ VR- aftermarket handlebar/stem were sold for about $680.
The company has received at least 37 reports of broken handlebars. One of these reports included minor injuries (scrapes and bruises).
The company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the recalled bikes and the aftermarket products and contact a local authorized Trek retailer for a free repair. This might seem like the logical thing to do. However, if you or a loved one suffered injuries as a direct result of the defective product, you should never agree to a repair – instead, you should seek legal assistance.
Based on the details surrounding the incident and the harm that you suffered, you could have the right to sue and recover compensation. As explained above, the recalled products represent a crash and fall risk to users – as the carbon handlebars can crack while the bicycle is being used. If this happens, a crash can occur, and the rider can fall. Some of the potential injuries that affected parties can suffer include the following:
- Head injuries and traumatic brain injuries
- Neck injuries and back injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Shoulder injuries
- Hip injuries
- Knee injuries
- Fractures
- Lacerations
- Sprains and strains
- Scrapes and bruises
Although these injuries might seem to be only minor listed above, they can be devastating. Some of these injuries can even be fatal. No matter the specific harm that you or a loved one suffered in an incident caused by a defective Trek bicycle or handlebar, you could have the right to file a lawsuit.
What to do If You’re InjuredIf you or a loved suffered injuries because of a defective product, there are multiple steps to take to prepare to take legal action. Consider some of the recommendations listed below:
- Seek medical attention as soon as possible

- Take photos of the defective product
- Take photos of the scene of the accident
- Contact the company to report the incident and the harm suffered
-
- Never agree to a refund
- Never agree to a repair
- Never agree to a return
- Keep the product in a safe place and do not tamper with it in any way

- Gather any records of lost wages if appropriate
- Seek legal assistance as soon as possible
After being injured by a defective product, you could definitely sue. Of course, you could file a regular civil lawsuit against the product manufacturer for the harm that you suffered. However, you could also participate in a class action claim. Is there a class action lawsuit? Although there is no class action yet, there could be one soon. Class action lawsuits are very common in product liability law since defective products can injure countless consumers in similar ways. How can I join or be a part of a class action lawsuit on this case? Typically, claimants simply have to reach out to a lawyer to join an existing class action. Can I file a class action lawsuit? Yes – you can begin a class action; however, your class action lawyer will need to find additional victims before the claim moves forward.
Whatever legal action you choose to take, you could potentially be awarded compensation for the harm that you or a loved one suffered as a direct result of the incident caused by the defective product. This could include compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, legal fees, etc. For more information about your legal options and the compensation that you could recover (including the average value of these types of cases and the typical time it takes to settle them), contact the experts here at our law firm immediately,
