SA Consumer Products Sanctuary and Sports Afield Biometric Firearm Safes Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On June 6, 2024, SA Consumer Products issued a recall for their Sanctuary and Sports Afield Biometric Firearm Safes. According to the recall, number 24-255, the biometric lock on the gun safes can be opened by unauthorized users; this poses an injury hazard as well as a death risk. The recall affects over 133,000 units of the product.
The recall includes the following products:
- Sanctuary Quick Access Biometric Home Safe (measures 10in. x 14in. x 10in.)
- Sports Afield Home Defense 4-Gun Biometric Safe (measures 55in. x 12in. x 11in.)
The Sanctuary safe was sold at Costco (in-store and online) and other stores nationwide for prices ranging from $75 to $100. The Sports Afield safe was sold at firearm stores and sporting goods stores nationwide (both in-store and online) for prices ranging from $500 to $600. The recalled gun safes were available for purchase from July 2020 through November 2023.
According to the recall, the company is aware of at least 77 reports of the gun safes being opened by unauthorized users, although no injuries have been reported.
The company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the biometric features of the recalled safes, remove the batteries from the safe, and only use the key-feature when using the safe to store firearms. They are also offering a free repair kit.

When unauthorized users can access gun safes, devastating injuries can occur. Unfortunately, those at highest risk are young children who could be curious about gun safes. Unauthorized access to gun safes could result in accidental discharges and gunshot wounds, which can lead to internal injuries, damage to organs, hemorrhaging, paralysis, and death. In addition to the physical injuries suffered, victims and their families may experience post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and more.
