MW Company Issues Recall for Steering Wheel Adapters


On September 5, 2019, MW Company issued a recall (recall number 19-202) for the MOMO Quick Release Steering Wheel Adapters for Race Cars. According to the recall, directly from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “the steering wheel adapter’s quick release can activate inadvertently and cause the race car’s steering wheel to suddenly detach from its steeling column while the vehicle is in motion, rendering the vehicle impossible to steer and posing a crash hazard and risk of serious injury and death to the driver.” In other words, a function that is available for convenience can activate while the car is in motion, posing a significant danger to drivers. MW Company Recalls MOMO Quick Release Steering Wheel Adapters Due to Crash HazardApproximately 260 units have been affected by the recall. The affected units were sold in all-black and black-and-red colors. The steering wheel adapters have model numbers QRMOMOBKBK and QRMOMOBKRD respectively. The steering wheel adapters were sold from July 2018 to May 2019 for approximately $375. The defective steering wheel adapters were available at small retailers and online at the following sites:

According to the recall, MW Company has received at least one report of the steering wheel adaptor quick-release mechanism engaging unintentionally.
