Omni Palm Springs Injury Attorney – Water Slide

Why Is a Water Slide Dangerous?

Pool slides need to be specially designed for the pools where they are installed, or there will be a high risk of injuries to the guests at the hotel. If there is a children’s slide, it needs to be small with a low exit velocity that is carefully designed to allow small children to go down the slide slowly before breaking into the pool water below. The children’s slides need to be created in less than 24 inches of water, to prevent children being injured or drowning from using these types of slides. A drop slide is a larger slide for adults and older children and teenagers, where the slide drops the person into the pool with a drop of over 2 inches or more. A drop slide needs a slide entry way at the top of the slide, to allow guests to position themselves safely before sliding down on their own power down the slide chute.

There should be water pumped down that chute, to prevent the guest from getting burns from sliding down a dry slide at a fast clip, to get to the water below in the pool. The handrails need to be safe and made of sturdy material that will not provide a rusty surface for holding onto, when entering the sliding area. The platforms should be at least 40 or more inches tall, with guardrails and higher railings for safety. The landing areas of the drop slide need to extend out at least 5 feet on each slide of the center area of the slide, and out at least 20 or so feet from a wall area of the pool. Those measurements will help prevent people from going fast down the slide chute, and falling or sliding into a wall at the other end of the slide feature. Finally, drop slides should be created at under 10 degrees incline, as to not allow the sliders to move too fast down the slide chute with the forces of gravity. Once people reach the end of the slide, the water depth needs to be at least 4-8 feet deep, which will allow guests to slide out safely, and not hit the bottom
