Maryland Woman Gets Stuck in Florida Hotel Window and Dies – Hotel Injury Attorney

Maryland Woman Gets Stuck in Florida Hotel Window and Dies – Hotel Injury Attorney lawyer lawsuit

On March 18, 2021, at approximately 7:28 a.m. emergency responders pronounced the victim dead. Sydney Therriault of Beallsville, Maryland, who was only 22-years-old died after getting stuck in the window of her hotel in Florida. She had been staying at the Pelican RV Resort & Marina in Grassy Key, Florida.

According to officials, it appeared that the victim did not have her hotel key and was simply trying to enter her room through the window. Unfortunately, as she tried to go in through the window, she got stuck and asphyxiated. According to authorities, no foul play is suspected.

The incident is unfortunately, however, it is still unclear how she ended up stuck in the window – which (based on photos) appear to be rectangular and tempered glass.

Is the Hotel Liable?

Although this appears to be an unfortunate accident, it is possible for the hotel to have at least some sort of liability. This is because all hotel owners owe their guests a duty of care. They have a duty to keep their premises free of any hazards that could potentially harm their guests. When hotel owners breach their duty of care, they can be liable for any harm resulting from incidents associated with dangerous conditions on their premises.

What could’ve happened? Although there is no way to know until the investigation is complete, it is possible that the windows were hazardous (the window could’ve come down suddenly after being opened). In addition, it is possible that the hotel didn’t have any alternative methods of accessing the hotel room after losing or forgetting a key, leading to guests trying to access rooms through windows. Of course, this is all speculation.

If you or a member of your family suffered harm as a direct result of the negligence of a hotel owner (i.e., there were dangerous conditions throughout the hotel premises), the hotel owner could be held accountable. This means that affected parties and their families could sue. If you would like to learn more about establishing hotel liability and determining whether you could pursue an injury claim, do not hesitate to seek legal assistance with the experts at our firm as soon as possible.

Suing and Recovering Compensation

If you or a member of your family suffered harm in a hotel incident in Florida or elsewhere, you might have grounds to pursue an injury claim – in the case of death, you could pursue a wrongful death claim. Earnings from a Product Liability Claim against Belkin

The value of a product liability lawsuit will largely be determined by the injuries you suffered and how extensive they were. If you were seriously hurt, you will potentially receive a larger settlement offer than if you only suffered minor injuries. The insurance agent wants to preserve profits and not pay out settlements, and we aim to bring you the maximum settlement available under the law. Our goal is to secure you compensation for the following:

  • Medical bills and expenses from the past and future for surgery, hospitalization fees, medication, physical therapy, and more
  • Lost wages if you were unable to work or could not return to work in the future
  • Property damage to cover lost items and personal belongings
  • Pain and suffering damages to account for emotional trauma, anxiety, PTSD, fear, and more

You should not be expected to foot the bill for all of these expenses if you were not responsible for the incident in the first place. A defective product claim can allow you to receive the compensation you need to pay for these damages.
