How can chairs collapse?<\/span><\/p>\n

Chairs can collapse for a number of reasons. Some are poorly designed and simply cannot hold the weight of the person sitting in it. The legs may be dainty or too flimsy or weak, which would cause one or more to snap under the pressure. Further, the parts of the chair that hold the legs to the body may sever, separate, or break. These fastenings should be expertly attached and not have any weak points. A collapsed chair is more likely to happen if the chair is older, as well. The amount of times that the chair has had weight on it and has been stretched or pushed past its durable point will contribute to a future accident. Some chairs were previously broken as well<\/b> and were poorly fixed or repaired. It is possible that a property owner did not adequately repair a chair that has already been broken. Recent Example of Defective Chairs causing Injuries<\/span><\/p>\n

On April 28, 2022, Amazon issued a recall of their AmazonBasics School Classroom Stack Chairs. The recall (number 22-743) affects approximately 22,400 units of the product. According to the recall, the weld on the chair frame can fail, posing a fall hazard for anyone sitting on the chair. The defective chairs were sold online at Amazon from January 209 to January 2022 for prices ranging from $128 and $190. The chairs affected by the recall were sold in sets of six chairs (available in red, purple, blue, yellow, lime green and pink). These chairs are recommended for younger children (ages three to six years old) and have a weight limit of up to 190 pounds. However, because of the defect present in the weld of the chair frame, the chair is not suitable for safe use. According to the recall, Amazon has received at least 55 separate reports of the chairs breaking, although no injuries have been reported so far (of course, unreported injuries are possible).<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, defects like the one presented by these classroom chairs are very common. If the weld on a chair is defective, then the chair can collapse at any time \u2013 sending anyone sitting on the chair onto the floor and potentially causing injuries.
