Tour Bus Crash on 60 Freeway Leaves 1 Dead and 32 Hospitalized
One person has died and thirty-two others were hospitalized, two of them in critical condition, after a tour bus crashed on the 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights in California early Sunday morning on Mother’s Day. According to Public Information Officer Fred Fielding, of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, units were dispatched at about 5:07am. Units responded to reports of a crash involving a fire near Hacienda Boulevard. When the fire department arrived on the scene, they found the tour bus involved in a crash with a vehicle which appeared to be a Nissan SUV (the SUV was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived).
The driver of the Nissan SUV, the sole occupant of the vehicle, died. According to CHP Officer Zachary Salazar, the impact of the crash caused the vehicle to burst into flames, trapping the driver inside. Further, the officer stated that there were sixty-three people aboard the tour bus, including the driver.

According to a news release issued later in the day by CHP, preliminary investigations showed that the Nissan SUV had become disabled in the first lane; the bus then rear-ended the disabled vehicle before veering to the right, across all lanes, and hitting the raised guardrail along the right shoulder.
