One Person Arrested for the Brutal Attack that Left Valet Employee with Critical Injuries – Assault and Battery Lawyers
Police have made an arrest in connection with the brutal beating of a West Hollywood valet that left the victim with critical injuries last month (on September 14). The victim is a longtime employee at Barney’s Beanery. He was identified by the business as Frankie Zarazua. Zarazua was punched to the ground, lost consciousness, and then was kicked on the head and upper body several times before the suspect fled the scene. He was transported to a hospital (specifically, the intensive care unit) due to injuries to his head, neck, and body.
The unidentified male suspect is currently in custody on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. This individual has also been linked to additional assaults that occurred on the same evening.

Assault and battery incidents can lead to extensive injuries that can result in temporary or permanent disability and even death. Some of the injuries that victims can suffer can include the following:
- Head injuries, including concussions, skull fractures, and traumatic brain injuries
- Facial injuries, including eye injuries, broken nose, broken teeth, and broken jaw
- Neck injuries and back injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Broken ribs and other broken bones
- Lacerations, scrapes, and bruises
- And more
Although these injuries might seem to be only minor, the truth is that they can be potentially devastating. Survivors are likely to be left with extensive medical bills. If you suffered injuries or if a member of your family died as a result of injuries caused by assault and battery, it is important that you explore the legal options available to you, as you could have the right to pursue a claim.
Can I File a Lawsuit?Yes – you could have the right to file a lawsuit for the harm that you or a loved one suffered. Whether you sustained injuries or a member of your family died as a result of their injuries, you could sue; based on the details surrounding the situation, you could have the right to file a lawsuit against the attacker, although you could also have grounds to sue the property owner (or employer).
Understanding liability for assault and battery incidents – property owners have a duty to ensure that their entire premises remain safe for their guests and for their employees. A part of this is ensuring that they have adequate security and surveillance to avoid incidents. Although property owners may not be liable for incidents that they could not have anticipated, property owners could be liable for failing to take any preventative action.
What about employers? Similarly, if the employer knew or should have known that there was a risk of incidents occurring (i.e., there had been previous attacks), then the employer could be liable. Can injured employees be eligible to file workers compensation claims? Since the incident occurred on the job, employees could potentially have the right to file workers comp claims.
For more information about the exact time that you have to file your claim, please do not hesitate to reach out to our expert legal team as soon as possible to learn more about your legal options.
Can I Recover Compensation?Yes, you could have the right to recover compensation for the harm that you or a loved one suffered. Although every assault and battery incident is different, you could be entitled to receive some of the following categories of compensation:
- Medical costs
- Lost earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Property damage
- Punitive damage
- Funeral and burial costs
- Loss of consortium
- Legal expenses
How much can I recover? The specific value of your claim is based on the details surrounding the incident, including the harm suffered, the extent of the injuries, whether injuries caused temporary or permanent harm, and even the victim’s wage history, for example. In general, these cases can be worth anywhere from $50,000 to $1.5 million – and sometimes even more.
